The Dalí Quartet

Hi there!

I am so, so thrilled to share that I have joined the Philadelphia-based Dalí Quartet! When I sat down to audition with Carlos, Adriana, and Jesús, I heard and felt them putting so much of themselves into their playing; it was deeply personal, ecstatically committed, and profoundly imaginative. From the first few notes of Mendelssohn’s Op. 80 slow movement, I felt that this was a group that had a clearly defined identity at the same time as an open-minded, open-hearted approach to making music together spontaneously, with both clarity of conviction and emotional suppleness: powerful ideas and yet flexibility and malleability at the same time. I have been in countless other audition circumstances before in which I felt self-conscious, but the three of them set me at ease and made space for me to express myself honestly with them.

So- lots more to say and to express! I am still decompressing over the whole experience, and we’re already in the middle of getting to know each other through string quartets by Ginastera and Arriaga. I am so excited to share with you what we come up with, and I hope to update more regularly moving forward. In the meantime, i’m sending out lots of love and gratitude; thank you for stopping by, and thank you for sharing these thoughts with me!
